on

If you are interested in live webcasting, you might want to get started on the right footing and learn to avoid silly mistakes. Here you can have a look at famous live mistakes that will get a reaction out of you. This reaction can be a laugh, anger or just an “oops.” Have a look:

The Wrong Miss Universe

Renowned TV host Steve Harvey made a goof-up of historic proportions when he announced Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the coveted crown while the real winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. What ensued was an awkward moment when Gutierrez was stripped of her blue diamond and topaz crown and was forced to keep her dazzling smile in place. Wurtzbach was shocked (read pleasantly surprised) by the goof-up and didn’t know how to embrace the glory that seemed to have fallen into another’s lap for a few seconds.

Rude Gesture by the Weatherman

In another live webcasting mistake (which some viewers found offensive), Weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker raised his middle finger to his colleague Simon McCoy for a lighthearted remark. Though the former tried to move on and said that it was just a mistake and even moved his hand to his face to disguise it, the action was caught by millions of viewers. BBC received angry reactions over this and had to issue an apology.

Because Pronunciation Matters

A.J. Clemente got the chance to be an anchor, but he might have never dreamed that the first words he would say on TV were “F*****g S**t” It’s exactly what happened. He was trying to pronounce the name of the winner of the London Olympics, Tsegaye Kebede but was stressing about it because he didn’t get the hang of it. He also failed to make amends for his mistake and bumbled like a half-wit when it was his turn to speak. He even lost the job soon.

Another Wrong Winner

In 2010, Australia’s Next Top Model presenter, Sarah Murdoch announced Kelsey Martinovich was the winner and when she was giving her winning speech, Murdoch interrupted her and stated that real winner was Amanda Ware. Martinovich hugged Amanda, and things ended on a positive note as she was awarded AUS$25,000 and a free trip to the US by Fox to express an apology.

Celebs Also Makes Mistakes

Even singing sensations make a mistake on live TV. This was proved by Justin Timberlake when, as a part of his performance in 2004 Super Bowl halftime show he accidentally exposed the breast and even the nipple of Janet Jackson while crooning the song “Rock Your Body.” Though both singers looked shocked and Janet quickly covered up, millions got a peek at her pierced nipple. It was later explained by Jackson that Timberlake was to rip off the top, and her breast was supposed to be covered by a red fabric, but he accidentally tore both off.

Conclusion

If you have read through all these goof-ups, you have probably realized that live webcasting is not as easy as it seems to be. Buying broadcasting equipment is not enough, you need to practice beforehand and ensure that you know when you are live so that you can act properly and don’t do things that raise eyebrows or lead to controversies.
